What you need to start!
- 24 diapers to start, we recommend having at
least 4 mother-ease diapers for night time
- you need 30 wipes and a bowl with water for
quick easy washes at home and a peri bottle or bum spray for the diaper bag
- if you have pocket diapers only, buy 3 extra
inserts for extra night time absorbency
- for night time, use a stay dry liner or
microfleece liner to keep baby’s skin dry
- if using any product on baby’s skin for a
rash or extra protection, use a liner so your diapers don’t end up repelling
liquid
- 2 small wetbags for your diaper bag, one for
in your diaper bag and one for backup
- you need 2 large laundry bags or diaper pail
liners 1 in use and 1 back up when it’s in the wash
- biodegradable liners or other liners if your
child is on formula or solids so it’s easy to shake solids into the toilet
where they belong
- 2 swim diapers ~ 1 for the baby to wear and 1
backup for when they do what they do!
washing!
- when taking the diaper off baby, take all
inserts out/off, throw them in your diaper pail/laundry bag
- only wash 18-20 at a time (your washer will
look 1/3 – 1/2 full, still fill it completely with water)
- when ready, throw diapers, wipes, wetbags and
laundry bag (inside out) into the machine
- either do a cold rinse or soak them for 30
minutes in cold water (in the machine)
- do a hot wash with ¼ of the little cup of
claudia’s choices
- throw them in the dryer or line dry
extra's!
-
if
you have used creams with your diapers without a liner you may need to \\\'strip\\\' your diapers... Put some dish soap
(preferably dawn’s original) and rub it into your diapers to get the cream
off. Do two cold washes, then one hot wash. Make sure that you don't see any soap bubbles in your wash, if so, keep doing rinses until you don't see any more soap.
- an open pail system or laundry bag isn’t as
stinky as a closed pail
- wash your diapers every 2 days to avoid
stains and stink
- putting your diapers in the sun to dry will
bleach out most stains
- when stuffing your pocket diapers (kanga’s or
happy heiny’s) make sure that the insert is spread out to the sides and not
bunched
- if you aren’t sure what size to use, use the
smaller size of diaper or larger size of insert
- diapers don’t need to be tight ~ make sure
you can fit at least two fingers into the waist so that your baby is
comfortable
- instead of disposable wipes, use reusable
wipes with water at home and put the wipe in the laundry bag and wash with
your diapers (you have just eliminated an extra trip to the garbage can!)
- bring your reusable wipes and organic bum
spray to keep baby clean and fresh on the go
- boil hemp and bamboo product’s/liners for 30
minutes to get rid of natural oils and maximize their absorbency ~ or if they have snaps, put them in a sink with some dish soap and soak them for several hours wringing them out several times.
